The word “goodbye” have its roots in a phrase that involved God. Yes, it’s true!
Back in the day, people would say “God be with you” when parting ways. Over time, it morphed into “goodbye.” This phrase was often used in letters and formal farewells, especially in the 16th century. Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales (circa 1390s) even has a version of “God be with you.” such as “God speed you” and “by heighe God above”.
By the 1600s, “goodbye” was commonly used as we know it until today. To make it more affectionate, “babe” or “baby” is sometimes added to “bye”. Thus, we also use “ba-bye”, which is a casual, loving way to bid farewell, often used with little ones or loved ones.
There is Someone in your life who will never say goodbye to you. Never in the Bible that He mentioned such phrase. In fact there is a strong promise in Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you”.
